MAJOR PROJECTS [Space Musical Instruments - Cosmical Seeds - to the ISS] Cosmical Seeds are a pair of musical instrument suitable for weightlessness and were selected as a theme of Cultural and Artistic Utilization of the Japan's module of the International Space Station (ISS/Kibo) by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). A metal artist, So Negishi and Ayako Ono developped the musical instruments together since 2009.””On October 31st, the instruments were succsessfully launched, and an American astronaut, Dr. Donard R Pettite treats and plays them on February 20th, 2012. Two pieces of music will be background music as a kind of collaboration. One is the special edition for the instruments, named "Dream Starts" composed by an artist, Jaakko Saari; and another is two mins edition of "Kiyoraka na sora" composed by an acclaimed pianist, Akira Takahashi. [Mars Habitability Project as a Pilot Study at Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS)] The Mars Habitability Project investigates sensory stimulation and creative interaction as elements for improving habitability and safety in long duration missions (LDM). This ongoing project is applied in a short-duration space mission simulation context at MDRS and focuses on interaction with plants, colors, fragrances and sounds. The investigation, led by the research group Extreme-Design, was first conducted on 18 subjects in 2010 during the EuroMoonMars campaign upon the invitation of ILEWG (International Lunar Exploration Working Group) and SKOR (Foundation Art and Public Space). The 2010 results, based on qualitative and quantitative methodology, show positive stimuli effects without influences on the overall mood of the subjects. This study, of which the stimuli were based on colors and sounds, is going to continue in 2011 during the EuroMoonMars campaign. She cooperate with the group EXTREME-DESIGN and Dr. Schlacht who established the group. [White Label Space Official Team of Google Lunar X-Prize] The Google Lunar X PRIZE is a $30 million competition for the first privately funded team to send a robot to the moon, travel 500 meters and transmit video, images and data back to the Earth. White-Label-Space is an official Google Lunar X-PRIZE team. The mission is to create a brandless space enterprise that can provide space missions to anyone that come up with a viable business case to cover the costs. Her involvement was instrumental in creating the foundations for the Japanese branch of the organization. Additionally she stayed involved as a team artist and an advisor. [First Artist in Residence at European Space Agency (ESA) / ESTEC] The pilot project of ESA "Artist in Residence" had been continued from January 2006 to November 2007. She had learned about the International Space Station and ESA's facilities of microgravity experiments, and then, proposed ideas of art and design including an object, which make sounds and natural wooden fragrance, suitable for microgravity environments. Additionally follow-up ideas were proposed: digital art as a Space Art & Educational Tools; and environmental designs for a Lunar and Martian base. The environmental design was called "Zen Garden on Earth's Moon and Mars". It used ESA”Ēs planetary test base and rover for the simulation. The video and demonstration were shown at the Space Art Exhibition at the International Space Exploration Conference in Berlin, Germany. [Space Art Project: Feasibility Study NASDA "Art Project"] A joint research project with National Space Development Agency (NASDA*) carried out from 2001 to 2003, in order to show the general public the role of Space Art and to propose new forms of Space Art. She was a member of student team called Student Conference of Space Art (S.C.S.A.) that proposed an idea of a sculpture which used music to show the difference of movement between Earth's gravity and microgravity. (Reference: Prof. Takuro Osaka) (*)NASDA merged the "Institute of Space and Astronautical Science" (ISAS) and the "National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan" (NAL), so it's now called the "National Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency" (JAXA) [Student Team Project] She became a leader of above-mentioned student team called S.C.S.A. and took over its fundamental experiment and activities such as art in microgravity environment and exhibitions at space related places or events. The fundamental experiment was developed through JAXA's Student Parabolic Flight Campaign and won twice the chance for student microgravity experiments. The team had been developing the idea of a sculpture which used music to show the difference of movement between changing levels of gravity, while using various kinds of materials, music, and shape of its container. Additionally, this team started collaborating with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan and had an exhibition there in 2004. Many of the members participated in various space related conference and events.
